Pigs are, by reputation anyway, greedy animals. Hence the phrase "greedy pig".
And that's what's always puzzled me about piggy banks.
They aren't very greedy.
Content to have the odd ten pen piece and a few coppers slotted through a whole in their back.
In fact traditional piggy banks are not real pigs at all.
Unlike the Hungry Piggy Bank.
For starters you put your coins in his mouth. Radical I know, but that's how animals of all shapes and sizes generally eat stuff. Very few species eat through a slit in their back.
When a coin is inserted, our greedy little pig comes to life and he (or she) chews away on your money like a pig in clover.
It is then deposited (unharmed despite the chewing) into the piggy's belly where it waits patiently until you want to spend it (fortunately you don't have to risk losing your fingers by retrieving the money via the pig's mouth, it only goes in that way).
Kids will love feeding the hungry piggy bank and by doing so will hopefully develop a love of saving.
