Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it's my radio controlled dragonfly A Balanced- 5

Remote Control DragonflyRadio control flying gadgets were the "boy toys" of choice in our house this Christmas and the one that we plumped for was the Dragon Fly Radio Control Insectoid.

The FlyTech Dragon Fly has an ultra-light durable carbon fibre body and can be flown indoors or outdoors, easily absorbing the rough and tumble of both, but initially I would recommend outdoors (unless you live in a warehouse).

Simply charge it up via the control pad and it'll be ready for its maiden flight.

What makes the RC dragonfly that little bit special is that has a dual wing design and it flaps them like a real dragonfly. No fixed wings and propeller for this fly in the sky.

In theory this means it is incredibly aerobatic, its wings allowing it to hover, glide, dive and land in much the same way as a real insect would. In practice you are just happy to see it fly before it heads towards the ground below and crash lands.

But stick with it. After a few days my son had it taking off, flying in a circle and returning to him - he simply plucked it out of the air as it passed him by. He also had it swooping down to within a whisker of the ground before returning to the air. And with a little more practise, indoor flight has become a reality too - and not a single broken ornament to report either.

Available from The Gadget Shop priced £34.99.
