The backpack that uses solar energy to charge your mobile phone
Thursday January 22nd 2009, 09:02
Any mention of solar power in the depths of a British winter normally raises more than a few eyebrows.
But the solar backpack should be raising them for all the right reasons - not least because if you're quick you can grab one for half the normal price.
Not surprisingly, the solar backpack looks and works like any other backpack. Put your stuff in it and carry it on your back.
But it has something ordinary backpacks don't. A monocrystalline solar panel that stores energy from the sun and allows you to charge mobile phones, MP3 players and other electrical gadgets while out and about.
The solar backpack includes a rechargeable battery pack and adaptors for Nokia, Motorola, Ericsson and Siemens mobile phones as well as a mini USB. Attach your phone or camera to the power pack and let charging commence.
There are plenty of compartments inside the backpack including a concealed zipped pouch to store a wallet, phone, or iPod. Plus there's a velcro-sealed pouch so that loose change is always at hand. There's even a small pocket containing a rain cover - not that it ever rains in Britain in case any would-be tourists are reading this and wondering why we would need a rain cover.
Normal price is £39.99, but if you are quick you can grab yours for just £19.99 from The Gadget Shop.
